What can a Needs Assessment do for You?

Updated: Sep 13, 2021

Kids are back in school this month and we wanted to show you some things we've been working on over the summer to get their playgrounds ready for the new school year! We've worked with several School Districts to update their playground standards and install nice new playgrounds for the kids to enjoy as they come back from summer break. Many of these School Districts have even updated their standards to make every newly installed playground Inclusive so all kids can play together. Designing the new playgrounds so every kid can play together is such a big step in making inclusive play for all the new standard.

Needs Assessment

You might be asking yourself, how can I help my School District get the improvements they need to their school playgrounds, sport fields, and social gathering areas updated? The first step is asking for a Needs Assessment and Miracle Playsystems can help you with that!

A Needs Assessment is a valuable tool to help you establish an understanding of your long-term playground planning needs and the cost to make such upgrades. You'll in turn have a budget to drop into your future budgets. It can also be used to solicit donations from community organizations. Nearly 71% of our clients who use this assessment successfully secure the funds needed to replace outdated and unsafe play structures.

Summertime School Playground Construction

Over the summer we were able to assist and help several local School Districts in updating their school playgrounds while the kids were on summer break. Check out these projects below that were completed just in time for school to begin! You can find more information about each school playground in our Projects page.

Next Steps and Other Areas for Improvement

It can be overwhelming trying to decide what needs improvement and what needs updating on a school campus. The goal should be to provide a safe space for children to enjoy play, sports and social gatherings. Sometimes just observing students at recess can help you determine what your playground is missing. The same goes for other areas of a school campus. Maybe you notice students standing around waiting for the swing? Or at lunchtime at a High School you notice many students don’t have a place to sit outside. Are teachers dragging chairs outside from the classroom? Maybe you should look into adding more benches or tables throughout the campus for students to take their learning outdoors. To encourage creative expression, you might build an outdoor music and dramatic arts area with a stage and musical instruments designed for outdoor use.
